Slow Wi-Fi rarely announces itself. It shows up as the card reader that takes ten seconds too long, the video call that freezes mid-sentence, the employee who stops mentioning it because nothing ever changes. If any of these sound familiar, your network is taxing every workday:
- Dead spots you all just work around. If everyone knows “don’t take calls by the back office,” that’s a coverage problem with a known fix — access point placement, not a bigger internet bill.
- Everything slows down at the same time of day. Mid-morning pileups usually mean one consumer-grade router is doing a business-grade job.
- Guests and staff share one network. Customers on the same network as your point-of-sale and file shares is a security problem, not just a speed one. Guest traffic belongs on its own segmented network.
- You’re still on the router your internet provider gave you years ago. Provider gear is built to a price. Business hardware with proper management pays for itself in uptime.
- Nobody knows the admin password — or everybody does. Both are bad. Your network should be documented and managed, with credentials held properly.
None of this needs a rip-and-replace. Most small offices in Fresno and Clovis are one site survey and a couple of properly placed access points away from Wi-Fi nobody thinks about anymore — which is exactly how it should be.
We keep a running room for this kind of thing: the Tech Deck, on our community site — the week’s tech finds, fixes, and warnings, in plain English: https://celestia-catwoman-5be0.zipwp.link/groups/tech-deck/
